Squeaking noise on kit lens

Postby jacob on Wed Mar 30, 2005 8:59 am

Well Ive had my camera since October/04, but today, is the first time i heard a little squeaking noise in the lens when autofocusing.
It was fine literally 15minutes ago, but now it sounds like rubber squeaking or maybe it's metal, but somethings going on. Anyone have this problem before?
As well it seems to be struggling/working a little harder to get in focus
On the phone with tech support waiting in queue as i type.
Kinda upset here  lol

im gonna drop it off at nikon head office here in toronto, only 15minutes away.
one benefit of living where i live.
called nikon and the guy said something in the ring may have fallen off track and just to take it in.
so we'll wait and see, kinda sucks, 'cause ill always have it in the back of my mind now with that lens if something goes wrong  lol
thanks for the reply gs.
as for grit, i haven't taken it out anywhere really where grit can get in...unless it was something airborn and big enough to damage the ring or something like that btw, what's ty crc? lol

Jacob - don’t worry too much - when I bought my Mercedes there were five serious faults within a month - fixed no worries and I still enjoyed the car

That's a good comparison... a Mercedes and a Nikon.

Hyundai to Nikon? No... that's Hyundai to Canon, what with the 20D, 300, and 350's build quality.

lol thanks guy, appreciate the humour, hopefully it won't be bad and itll be alright. it just kinda sucks when it's fairly new and your fav toy...
the worst part about it is, a friend of mine who's getting hotter by day in terms of getting more recognition and radio air play, wanted me to come in tonight and take some studio pics of him recording (for his site).
guess ill just settle for the 80-200 lens and stand back 1000feet from him lol.
the mercedes comparison was good and put me at ease for a brief second...tsk tsk...my fav car manufacturer, along with porsche
