Quote please

A quick question: How do I take a segment of a post (rather than the whole post) as a quote? I so far have not been able to do this and I know that apart from annoying you, it's also P....ing me off too!
Sorry for the boring post but I'm better off asking it now rather than continuing to frustrate other users and myself. Thanks in advance.

Once you have got the quote in your message, go and delete the bits you don't want. :)

Thanks Sheepie,
That's what I have been doing but it appears at the top of my post as:
[quote="username"] blahblahblahblahblahblahblahblah
in the message rather than in the quote box?

You need to NOT get rid of the [/quote] tag.

Hi Nnnnsic, exactly what do you mean by that?
As Pauline would say "please explain".

Marcus

  1. Copy the text you want to the clipboard
  2. Paste it into your message
  3. highlight waht you just pasted
  4. click the Quote "button" above the text edit box. This will wrap your text with [ quote] and [/quote] (I've added a space after the [ here so it would be ignored)
  5. move below the closing [/quote] and type your text
Leigh is saying leave the [/quote] at the end - if this is missing you get [/quote] in your message

Also worth doing is clicking the BBCode hyperlink just below options which is below the Emoticons when typing a message as this brings up a very useful help page. This covers things like how to do numbered lists like I did here :wink:
