Sticky D70 BodyHi all, its been a while even though I frequently lurk in the background.
Following the recent post on the virtures of the D70, I was inspired to dig mine out of storage and noted:- The size of the screen, I had to put my glasses on to actually see it. The rubber based casing had a sticky feel to it, like someone had dropped it in lemonade. Has any one else had this problem and if so what did they do about it. The camera has was stored in a wardrobe in a Lowerpro shoulder bag. I'm not sure why it would be sticky. I'm hoping to ressurect it and use it in a home studio set-up to take portraits. Re: Sticky D70 BodyNot sure about the D70 but I have a collection of film cameras which I keep in a display cabinet. They all sit there under the same conditions but only one has the same problem you are describing, a Minolta 600si it also happens to be the only one which has a "modern" plastic type body similar to today's cameras. Not sure if that has something to do with it but no matter how many times I clean it, it comes back. Hopefully someone will have an answer.

Re: Sticky D70 BodyNot a camera but I've had other rubbery plasticy items which have gone very sticky when not used for years.

Re: Sticky D70 BodyI had a similar experience with 2 different Sony video cameras and a couple of buttons on a Kenwood stereo. It seems to be a breakdown of the rubberised compound they use for adding extra grip. I tried to clean it but it resulted in the whole lot coming away from the underlying plastic. I vaguely wondered if there was some sort of spray or something that could replace it but in the case of the Sony's they failed mechanically anyway so it was a moot point!

Re: Sticky D70 BodyNot that it helps much, but my D70 doesn't feel sticky - ok, maybe just a little bit.
Re: Sticky D70 BodyI have had this happen on one of my F80's. I am lead to believe that it is the rubber compound breaking down (same as that Muzz said), I had my F80's rubber replaced.
