Gone with the Wind...

Postby Mj on Wed Feb 15, 2012 4:40 pm

Ok so I must be suffering from a little gear acquistion syndrome (GAS) or the lack thereof... not quite enough to clammer yet for a D4 but certainly enough to be looking to extend my studio kit.

On occasion it would be useful to have use of both a smoke machine and/or a wind machine.
There are a number of relatively cheap smoke machine options that pop up from time to time but I don't see many options for a wind machine. I'm not too keen on spending 1k+ on a bowens jet stream or similar but I don't think the household hairdryer is going to quite do the trick either.

So is anyone making use of something I should consider?

Yes well spotted... but the ones wind machines (studio fans) I've used have been stepless variable speed and built with a long tube to constrain the flow of air rather than blow the buggery out of everything and everyone in the studio... Not sure the standard fan is going to do the trick so rather than spend time I haven't got experimenting, I thought I would see if some one here had already been down this track... may be a tad hopeful ... and not a show stopper really... but damned if I'm going to spend 2k on a unit.
