Nikon Aus match Grey Imports?...JB Hi Fi is set to drop the sale of “direct import” Nikon digital cameras, with consumers now able to buy a genuine Nikon camera online at the same price as a grey imported camera. They will also get a 2 year Nikon warranty and a sealed box ensuring genuine parts.

Re: Nikon Aus match Grey Imports?...It is a welcome move, and it may not be that JB HiFi has an exclusive on this deal.....however the $1400 D700 that they list in the article has to be a typo, as even a grey D700 is not that low. Someone suggested to me that it was a D7000 price....if it is a D700 price then I will have to have words...

Re: Nikon Aus match Grey Imports?...
The article that I see says it's a D7000 for $1400. g.

Re: Nikon Aus match Grey Imports?...
It says D7000 in the article I just read. But still... I bought my genuine Nikon Australia D7000 at Ryda for a grey price 12 months ago and Gerry even longer ago. I don't know why this is seen as news.
Re: Nikon Aus match Grey Imports?...
It's not. Ryda have been doing it for more than 12 months.
Re: Nikon Aus match Grey Imports?...
they must have corrected it since I read it on Sunday morning Cameron

Re: Nikon Aus match Grey Imports?...What's news is that this now has official Nikon Oz support.
if a retailer agrees to not source stock from overseas, then they'll be eligible for pricing support plus an extended warranty deal. http://www.gadgetguy.com.au/nikon-casts ... ustralian/ It's all good. g.

Re: Nikon Aus match Grey Imports?...
How is this different from what Ryda have been doing for over 12 months? The D7000 I bought from Ryda a year ago came with the Nikon Australia warranty card and I bought the camera for a price that was the same or lower than grey market bodies.
Re: Nikon Aus match Grey Imports?...yeah Ryda been doing it for yonks, i bought mine march 2011 for AUD1279 aussie stock and warranty. I dunno why its now 1398, probably to be in line with other retailers.
About time JB-Hifi and Nikon Aus. gerry's photography journey

Re: Nikon Aus match Grey Imports?...
Again, what's different is that Nikon are now offering this support to, it seems, all dealers. Whether that affects Ryda or not is anyone's guess, as we don't know whether they've been working with direct (Nikon) support in the past, or just running to very tight margins.
Or perhaps because of the shortage of stock and components due to the flooding in Thailand? Lots of stuff affected by that. And yes, about time .... Nikon. g.

Re: Nikon Aus match Grey Imports?...By the way, this is a much better way to fight grey imports than what Nikon USA are doing. I have heard that Nikon Service Centers in the US will ONLY service genuine US stock. If you purchased grey they won't repair. They are apparently also not shipping parts to non-authorised repairers.
I don't know what traveling photographers are meant to do if their gear breaks while in the US.
Re: Nikon Aus match Grey Imports?...I'm assuming this should apply across all retailers (selling Nikons) and appears to now be 2 years warranty instead of 1.
I wonder if this will extend beyond bodies to say lenses and other Nikon accessories? D600, D7000, Nikon/Sigma/Tamron Lenses, Nikon Flashes, Sirui/Manfrotto/Benro Sticks

This almost suggests that something different was occurring previously.

Re: Nikon Aus match Grey Imports?...Havnt checked recently but $6000 was B&H in US which may add 10% GST
Re: Nikon Aus match Grey Imports?...
ryda have it for $6,988.85 which sounds pretty reasonable given GST and shipping. Thats before any of this Nikon Aus matching grey comes into effect. gerry's photography journey

Re: Nikon Aus match Grey Imports?...Wow, i think this is a great thing to happen. To see the local market compete with the grey importers will be fantastic. My only issue is, I need a d7000 this week and its so hard to find stores with stock here in Vic, and where i can pick it up from by friday. So will they -being the local aus stores - have more stock in store? I think a lot of ppl buy grey market due to the speed in getting it. Australia stockists i've spoken to today have no stock and dont expect any for another few weeks, esp of d7000 etc. what are your thoughts on how all this will affect the market here in Aus?
