Wacom Intuos5 Touch...

Postby Remorhaz on Sun May 20, 2012 9:51 pm

I recently got myself the new Wacom Intuos5 Touch input tablets (in Medium size with the wireless and mouse options). I'm enjoying it so far but having never used a pen input before it's been an interesting learning curve - e.g. the absolute rather than relative nature of the input area :)

I'm basically completely switching from mouse to tablet (because I've been having RSI problems with both hands/wrists/etc because of mouse use) so I'll be using it for pretty much all computer based mouse type input (I have one at the office and one at home).

So far I've only been using the pen and it's working out fine, I also have the keyboard and tablet side by side which seems to work ok - however I'd be interested in any tips or suggestions from long time users (especially those who use it for more than just say image editing)?

I'm noticing for instance I'm often holding the pen whilst typing - in fact holding the pen pretty much a lot of the time (although sometimes I put it down and type).

I do use the touch gestures (I have a Mac/iPad/iPhone so I'm somewhat familiar with the basic ones) and they do seem to work quite well (much better apparently than the dodgy ones on the previous Bamboo implementation) - even with the pen still in my hand.

I havn't really been using the express keys yet (except for the scroll/resize/etc ring) nor the radial menu - I'm guessing people like these.

Would users of say Lightroom and/or Photoshop with an Intuos have any suggestions/recommendations on settings/configurations/etc for me?

Hi Rodney,

I have a Bamboo (from 2009 I think) and use the circular motion key to zoom but that's about it.

I find it doesn't go well with typing however; having to put it down etc is a pain (win7)

I find the supplied mouse atrocious so simply flip the tablet (yes it has some scratches) and use my laser mouse on the bottom surface! :violin: Laser mice work on all surfaces apart from the glossy black glass on my table! :chook:

Let us know how the touch interface goes...sounds interesting.
