Cool project... been around for awhile (or i have been under a rock), there is even a exhibition of the images too..

Now and Then: Series 2 is a photography project first inspired by the flickr group, Looking Into the Past, which uses a technique that's become hugely popular around the world. By holding a historical image in its present day location and rephotographing it, you can create a window into past events and the lives of people who've stood on the same ground as you. It's a fun technique and a great way to re-imagine old photos and shine a new light on the places you know.

Looks interesting.
I have a book of photographs taken around the world. It is undated, but looks like it was in the late 1800's (Only horse traffic. but reasonably captured movement) I once had the idea of taking matching photos of as many of the images as I could track down, but gave it up as impractical. This looks much more approachable. I am tempted to give it a try. Now where did I put that book...
