So the corrosion that has been eating away at the insides of my d700 is working its way outside and I can now see it on the lens mount. My question is, can this corrosion effect my lens' ?

The glass? Unlikely.
The body, electronics and mechanism? Quite probably.
The coatings? Not sure. Depends on their detailed chemistry.

Yes, sorry, I meant the metal lens mount.

The lens mount is stainless steel, are you seeing the corrosion between the bayonet mount and the body? picture would be worth a thousand words here.
I would say that the lens would not be affected, for corrosion to propagate thru AL it needs to be in direct contact or exposed to the oxidizing agent in this case the salt that is from the water inside ya cam. That said corrosion is a beast of its own and man I have seen it do some strange shit, ie attack perfectly good panels adjacent to others which remain unaffected.
Although on second thoughts, I would be concerned about the white powder coming from the corrosion, this could possibly transfer the corrosion from one place to another, I guess it would be a safe assumption that the powder contains some elements of the oxidizing agent.

Doesn't sound very promising - I figured I'd be the first to bear this cross but touch wood I've not noticed anything bad... yet...

Correct.

Yeah, that's what worries me cos it's a very loose powder. Most annoyingly, I don't like what nikon is offering right now to replace it so I've been praying my camera keeps on going. Now, I may be forced to make a call.
