File names in Picture Project TransferWhen I download files off my CF cards some of the files it names DSC_xxxxxxx and others it puts the _ at the front of the file like _DSCxxxxxxx. By doing this it messes up the order the shots were taken.
Why does it do this and how do I stop it so the numbering is consistant? Is Picture Project transfer the program I should be using to transfer files off the CF card? If not what should I use? Thanks
I am now reloading the images using Picture Project and renaming the files during transfer. This should avoid this problem I hope and also stop me from getting duplicate file names in the future as well. Is this what most people do?
Have you changed your colour space?
The D70 files are shown as DSC_#### by default, but if you change to AdobeRGB, the file numbering changes to _DSC####.
Yeah, I have changed my colour space to Adobe RGB but only when I set the camera up when I got it. I have never changed it since but every download some get assigned each way.
I notice on the Nikon site there is niko View and Picture project and they seem to have the same functions. Is one of them better than the other. Why do they have two different products that by their descriptions have the same function?
I believe that if you set the camera for Adobe RGB in P, S, A or M mode that it remains as this colour space. But, if you go to any of the P&S modes it will revert to default which in this case would be sRGB. This is why you will get to two different codes _DSC and DSC_ on the same card.

Re: File names in Picture Project Transfer
Hi Spooky, When I first got the D70 there was a lot of info posted on how bad Picture Project is. For this reason I have actually never used it (not even installed it). I beleive the majority of people here use Nikon View to transfer their images from the card to the PC. I use Nikon View and have no problems at all. By using Nikon View you can then transfer your images and browse them within the one program (excellent if you are shooting RAW). Do you have Nikon View? W00DY Andrew
Nikon D3 and lot's of Nikon stuff!!
its one stupid and annoying feature, and utterly screws your file numbering once its off the camera, very annoying.
why on earth they need a different naming prefix for different colour spaces is beyond me... boo to nikon on that one.
