Brisbane in May/June?

My partner and I are currently looking at heading north to Brisbane for a few days either in the last week of May or first week of June (going to catch the Bolshoi Ballet) so I was hoping to see if anyone has any recommendations for:

-relatively inexpensive hotels in the CBD or surrounds(we will only be up there for a few nights max)
-food destinations
-photographic must see/must do
-other attractions

It is vital that things be kept public transport friendly. Thanks in advance. PS if anyone that wants to meet I may be able to either get away for an arvo or convince my partner to come along.

EDIT: Tickets to the Ballet have been booked....looks like I will definitely be in Brisbane the first weekend of June

Southbank would be an ideal place to stay. Within walking distance of all the galleries, arts centres and museums etc. ..... no need for a vehicle. Plenty of options of eateries on your doorstep, night markets, Brisbane wheel (highly recommended). I stayed at Mantra on Southbank last June - probably not the cheapest option, but certainly not the most expensive.

Too early to commit to a meet up, but it would be good to catch up depending on other commitments/timing.
