I couldn't help myself. The OM-D is one fine (some would even say spectacular) camera. The 45mm and 75mm primes are also spectacular. However, there's something about the gorgeous image quality of a FF sensor.
D-D photographics (the Australian side of things) has a special on 5DMkk today at $1529 with free delivery. Subtract the GST when I fly out of Oz in a few weeks and I have an aging but highly capable FF camera for about $1390. Sweet deal IMHO. Hopefully it will be delivered before I leave OZ on January 23. (I have dealt with D-D several times before and found them very good to deal with).
Happy daze.
Ozi.

Yeah, with my recent love affair with the fuji I had considered bowing out of dslr altogether. But then Xmas and school hols came along and I had the time to pull out the dslr and shoot with it. I even ran it side by side with the fuji on a few occasions and as good as this fuji sensor is...and it is very special, it just doesn't hold a candle to the d800 in IQ. And don't get me started on AF....
There is a certain something to FF...enjoy !!

Welcome back to the dark side.
I was half expecting you to have the letter M and the number 9 within this post used in a consecutive manner.

Suren, I'm not on a r****atologist's salary (or any ologist for that matter) and I don't have a black Amex, although I know two fellows who do have them...
In any case, I don't think I could come at a camera that doesn't autofocus!
Funny you mention the M9 though. I'm planning on being back in Italy early February, and the hotel I stay at is literally 5 minutes walk from the Rome Leica store, quite an amazing place. Last time I was there they offered me a brand new M9-P plus 35mm lens for around $5500 AUD. I didn't have the spare cash....
Happy new year.

Yes I can't see any of the mirrorless bodies really replacing the dslr in the near to mid future.
They simply lack the straight out grunt of the latter but make for a good lightweight alternative when that is the priority.
Of course I've opted for the Fuji whose AF speed could only be described as poor in today's competition... the Oly fairs somewhat better on that front.

Great price for a FF! Well found! Hope it performs beyond your expectations.

The major point in my decision is this. As brilliant as it is, the OM-D is still quite a solid little beast. Coupled with the grip and (especially 75 F1.
lens, it still needs a bag or similar to carry around. Might as well carry the 5Dii and be done with it.
I also much prefer the OVF.

Don't worry, it will wear off on you....

I had a look in the store in Washington. Very exclusive looking. Makes the Apple store look like a supermarket.

Amazing. I've seen second hand units without the lens for much more!

Did you consider the 6D or 5D3 before settling on the 5D2?

Yes, but at $1390 AUD it's a steal. Having said all that, I just called the fellow at D-D and he had no idea when the stock would be arriving.
We'll have to wait and see.

Probably be the last shipment too now that the 5D2 has been officially discontinued. You got in just in time.

i thought I would give an update on my FF purchase, and I must say that I am dissappointed with D-D Photographics. Because of my impending departure for the USA & Europe (well, still two weeks away) I wanted to ensure that I had the camera well beofre I leave Sydney. I phoned D-D and asked for a delivery date.
"7-10 working days, but we really have no idea when the stock will be in."
That is all well and good, but I was rather annoyed when my Mastercard was already debited for the purchase. I promptly cancelled the order. It still took several days for my MC to be re-credited. I'm not sure whether this is legal, but I don't think it is ethical. I don't mind paying a deposit, but paying several weeks in advance for something that may or may not arrive is a bit rich in my book.
Anyhoo, I have purchased a body from good ol' Amazon in USA and will collect it from a relative's place in a few weeks' time.
Ozi.

Its shame that DD approached this the way they have....i dont understand why they should be able to make interest on your money whilst you are waiting for stock to arrive. They are not the only culprits though. It is great to hear that you managed to get a refund and have managed to get a camera waiting for you over there.
