I'd entered a couple images in a couple of photography competitions last year and didn't think much more of it as you do... I received an email late last week indicating I'd won a prize and had anyone contacted me about it yet... Anyway to cut a long story short I'd won the Fujifilm Showcase 2012 Annual Grand Prize (for which I believe the prize is a camera (isn't it almost always...)) and in a separate competition run by Sigma I'd also won first place in the "Eye of the Photographer" competition. This second is particularly interesting because I'd won $3000 of my choice of any Sigma lenses for which I'm particularly happy This is especially good news since with my recent move to FX I was seriously eyeing off the new Sigma 35/1.4 and their 15mm f/2.8 fullframe fisheye and wondering which of the two I might be able to convince the boss I could buy . Now my decision rests on what third lens I'm also going to choose - their highly regarded 85/1.4, the new 105/2.8 macro or ??? (any suggestions gratefully accepted?) ... and the images which won well for the Fujifilm comp it was this "Alien Green" image at Bombo: and for the Sigma comp it was this "Starry Eyed" image out in country NSW:

Congrats Rodney! These are great images and it is awesome that you have managed to get some recognition for the wonderful work that you are consistently producing.

Couldn't agree more with what Cameron said. Well done Ann's greatly deserved.

Congrats! Cameron put it quite well. I reckon your landscapes (among other things) have evolved quite a bit since I first saw them a few years ago. Now winning comps! $3000 is quite a lot of money for most people I know; spend it wisely.

Congratulations Rodney! I'm not suprised because there are some seriously talented photographers on this forum of which you are one. Great prizes!.....be sure to enter the Sydney Life competition this year because there is $10,000 to be had. Outstanding photographs, by the way. Fine art from a fine artist.
Regards

Thankyou everyone - it was a bit of a surprise - I missed the actual announcements in magazine back in Nov/Dec - I had to hunt around to find a copy of the prev issue (which most stores didn't have) - luckily found one last copy in Teds today Matt. Congratulations Rodney on both competition wins, kind of cool you were surprised by the call (a bit of a worry no one had contacted you sooner). Had you shared the star trail one on here before, or one similar ?
It's a great shot!

Thanks Mate - technically no-one has contacted me about the Fujifilm comp yet (although I did email them after I found out I'd won ) I've shared both of these images on here before (when I took them). The star trails one was my very first attempt at doing a star trails (I've only done three - they are soooo time consuming - both shooting and post processing) - the first is still my best of the three tho - so I could look at it this way - I'm only getting worse with practice

Awesome images Rodney, not surprising you did well with these two, congrats
