Olympus M.Zuiko 17mm f/1.8?

I know there are a few M4/3 users embedded within the user base (yes this is directed at some of the lurkers) and I was wondering if anyone has had the pleasure of using one of these lenses. I have been restricted to the Olympus 14-42 and 15mm f/8 for too long and am considering adding this lens to the M43 stable.

Chris? Rooz? Anyone?

Ill be getting one during Black Friday or pre Xmas sales. Given its part of the ep5 kit I suspect there will be a number of unboxed 17's going cheap later in the year.

That is a good idea....wait for the sales. I am not too sure there will be an influx of unboxed units as they are a lens that should deliver in terms of IQ

nice work...I am going to have to follow your lead and snoop around looking for things like that. If you dont mind me asking where did you score your lumix lens? the 14mm?

I got from a HK seller called podmantech on eBay. Just checked and it's $182 now with the dollar falling a tad since I bought. There are some others I found at the time but this guy had the best rating. There are already 17/1.8 unboxed lens on eBay aswell but the price is still too high. I think the ep5 is gonna tank personally so I reckon there will be some deals to be had by end of year if not sooner.

Thanks Rooz....why do you think the EP5 will tank? The OM-D having dropped in price will definitely make its life difficult, but the kit with the 17mm f/1.8 is enticing as is focus peaking.

I would agree with you there, more expensive than the OM-D EM-5 but once the OM-D is updated it will all balance out. I'm interested by the focus peaking and FASTER AF.....my EP3 is already pretty quick in decent light. My dilemma is Nikon 1 vs M4/3. The Nikon 1 has great AF (can be better than SLR) and fits into my workflow, all the lenses I have used so far have been winners, and I now own 4 lenses in this system (and a FT1 adaptor that now works thanks to the latest firmware update). The M4/3 offers better image quality (although the EP3 vs J1 is pretty tightly matched) and a better platform for lens adaptation. I am uncertain if I should build both kits, or just leave them be.....

Between the J1 and the EP3 I am not really using my D700/D60/S5 Pro nor my compact cameras (Samsung EX1, Fuji F100fd). They (the mirrorless systems) offer the same, or better quality/usability for most applications, these days I just throw my Micro Nikkor 40mm on an adaptor and I have macro as well.

Can't say I have Cameron, although I have owned 14-42, 14 (Panny), 40-150, 45 and 75. All Olympus lens seem excellent and the 17mm should be no exception.

It was in store only. I just got lucky by using their online chat to ask if the ep5 was in yet. Then they said, btw...we have 20% off today only on olympus lens and accessories. And guess what they did ? took it out of an ep5 kit. So far I'm mightily impressed, AF speed is the best I've used so far. Superb and dead silent. Bucketloads of sharpness and contrast wide open.

Will hopefully get out at lunchtime tomorrow.

Oh and btw...the 17 is brilliant. Best m4/3 lens I've used so far. Loving the push/pull mf like my old Tammy.

Thanks, I ordered one in the wee hours of this morning...shame delivery is a bit on the pricey side of things but $458 all up is pretty good in my books.
