Howdy all,

Going over to Egypt on Tuesday for about 3 weeks. Just wondering if anyone here has been there and has any suggestions, warnings, comments, sights not to miss, things i should do while i'm there etc?

Also stopping through singapore for a few days. Same questions for there!

Any general advice appreciated.

cheers,

adam

Hi,

Haven't been to Egypt, but don't miss Sentosa Island via cable car in Singapore.

Highly recommend you don't carry any souvenier dummy bullets through Singapore customs

souvenier dummy bullets? Interesting! Is this a warning from experience?

Thanks for the tip!

I haven't been to Egypt either, but Singapore is great! I went to the zoo which is wonderful because most animals are not caged. They have a moat around the enclosures so it's like they are on an island, and they don't escape. There would be some great photo ops there. They also have the Jurong Bird Park (not sure of spelling...). I didn't go there, but I imagine some good photo ops also!

Orchard Road is the best place for shopping, but if you're buying big ticket items, make sure they wrap it infront of you. I had a friend who was caught out, and came home to something completely different.

I remember alcohol being relatively cheap too! Hope this helps a little, and you have a great time!

Cheers Stormy, the zoo sounds like a winner. A mate told me that they do night tours also which are supposed to be pretty schmick.

thanks,

adam

Adam,
This time of the year in Singapore should be extremely hot and steamy, doing the night tour at the zoo is not a good ideal when you will have lot of your mozzie friends accompanied.

The really funny thing was at the pubs/bars a glass of coke was SGD7.00 so it was better to be on the amber stuff. :D

Also the Singapore Sling at the Raffles Hotel was great.

Egypt is fantastic! What to see? See it all!

Cairo deserves 3/4 days and make sure you visit the pyramids at sunset.

If you're not on a package tour, jump on an overnight train to Aswan and make your way slowly back to Cairo over the next 2 weeks. Abu Simbel, Temple of Philae, Luxor and The Valley of The Kings simply can't be missed! On the middle Nile you must visit the Temple Of Horus at Edfu, and Kom Ombo is worth a stop of too.

Everybody will try to sell you something. or expect baksheesh for any favours granted. Deal with that and you'll find the Egyptians to be warm and friendly people.

Have a great trip.

I probably should have clarified! Duty Free alcohol! When I was there I got a one litre bottle of Cointreau for $25. I thought that was pretty reasonable!
