When I was doing a search for D70 in emule I came accross a short video clip which I downloaded. It turned out to be a TV ad in Japanese for D70. This got me thinking, why they don't advertise D70 and similar prosumer cameras in Australia but do in Japan. Is there more prosumers in Japanese market than in Australian?

Most of the advertising for the D70 seems to have been in photography mags of one sort or another. I guess when there's nationwide shartages of a product there's not much need to advertise!

Pick up just about any Aussie photography mag and you'll see a full page advert for the D70.

Different markets have different approaches to marketing - I guess the local guys made the decision to go print rather than TV - mostly something to do with bang for buck, and reaching the right audience :)

Nikon ran a TV ad for the D70 in the US during the 2004 Christmas season. I don't remember having seen it since then however. It featured a man shooting a picture of a rhino charging through a residential neighborhood. Was this shown in Australia at all?

Nup - but I have a copy if anyone wants it, not sure if it's still on the website I got it from - quite amusing :)

The Japanese ad features a girl shooting another girl who is surfing on a board with her dog.
