I actually emailed the Australian seller of this item, asking them for an explanation, and got a heap of invective back telling me basically to GFM and to get a life.

JK - welcome and I am glad you put this up. I saw it earlier today and then promptly forgot as I had to do some work.

The main thing is that you were not the one to bid on this item. Whenever I see something on eBay that interests me I do a google and check the item out first but there will always be gullible people who will fall for these traps.

Regardless, I like how he's advertising it as for use on a Nikon camera yet the pictures show it on action on a Canon...

And did you see at the bottom of the page the guy who asked the question "When are you going to sell this lens in Canon mount?" People are lining up to be sucked in.

Thats right Chris! I can't understand why plp don't do a google on any offer whether it be on eBay or elsewhere? It's the easiest way to check out a rip off.

I have found & purchased bargains on eBay, but they have been bargains because of a small amount of research effort prior to the purchase.

Interesting, I have never heard of Phoenix lenses before. The item seems to sell for US$375 including the Nikon mounting ring, so the Australian seller is definitely having a go! Surely no-one would be stupid enough to buy for that amount without doing some research.

I read a review of the Phoenix 100mm macro on nikonians, sounds like they are an extremely cheap plastic lens that are not too bad for the price. Here...

Aussie reseller with their import products have the same way to do their biz. They pay taxes and other charges same as take care of warranty once the sold product is failed.
I shipped one items about 1 pound, back to the US yesterday by Global Express/ insured, and it costs me $85.00 one way. More dearer with big carton, cos AP has certain limited size of container accepted to be sent by Air Mail or Global Express, if it's not in those sizes, then will be sent by sea not airmail, go to Fedex or UPS or TNT, the cost may triple.

But as mentioned before, they're more expensive in comparison with other overseas sellers.
