A friend of mine was heavily involved with the Merlin 2000, Moller's first prototype, as far back as the mid-eighties. It's interesting to see that there has been almost NO DISCERNIBLE advancement or development since then, so I'm not holding much hope for these things getting "off the ground" in the near future. Every now and then the PR machine cranks up whetting everyone's appetite but the real development needs to occur at the government level and the freeing up of airspace legislation. Moller and his ilk have been trying for two decades and they ain't gettin any closer.

Incidentally, my friend was a senior check captain with a major airline, an advisor to governments and industry on aviation matters and well-versed on the rules and regulations of aviation and air travel. Accepting the logical outcome, he gave up on the flying car idea some time ago as unworkable. Although the machines can fly, the wheels of government will sadly keep them on the ground for some time yet.
