When i save a file from NEF to JPG in PSCS i am losing the EXIF data, all of it, not a smidgen is left in the file.

Anybody know why this would happen? I'm buggered if i can work it out.

I spent hours photographing my submission for the Comp '3' only to find that it is now invalid due to not having any EXIF data. Bugger.

Do you 'save for web' or use Imageready?

Steve - use ”Save as” and the EXIF data will be there

I had the same problem for last challenge - it should be OK if you kept the original file. As Chris said, you need to use the "save as" command under the "file" tab. Before that you can resize the photo's dimension by using "image size adjustment". However, I have no idea why Image ready (the program that opens when clicking "save for the web") removes all Exif data...

Link.

ImageReady is a program for web production gif’s, animations etc it is not intended as a photographer’s method of saving jpg’s. It is also in the business of making files as small as possible therefore it would strip any unnecessary data.

EDIT: DO NOT USE ”SAVE FOR WEB”

I normally use Imageready, which I find to be a reliable and useful way of coming up with a 'web-friendly' version of my pics. I have it set to save EXIF data (can't remember how I did this off hand though). PS CS does tend to loose some of the data, but most of it seems to come across quite happily.

I don't use either imageready or Save for Web, only the Save As and then select JPG from the drop down list.

Unfortunately i don't have the original NEF any longer as i deleted it after i finished post-processing. It was then that i discovered that there was NO exif data in the file.

I think i will just blame Windows and Microsoft for it..

Sheepie - as of PSCS you can embed metadata in a file being processed through Imageready (apologies on that front) - I do not use ImageReady since the early days when I found I could get better results from the save as command within PS
