Metz have traditionally been the benchmark for high quality external flash units. My mum's used them when she shot weddings for a living, and I had used one with great success up until I found out the high trigger voltage from the 30BCT4 on the D70 hotshoe could potentially fry its circuits.
This new 54 AF-1 has a higher guide number than the SB800, and is priced lower than the SB600. This, and the current $25 USA rebate on the SB800 kinda makes me wish I hadn't bought one when I did...
