Raw converters compared - judge for yourself

Postby stubbsy on Wed May 11, 2005 4:12 pm

Here's a very interesting link:

http://www.pbase.com/miljenko/raw_converters

Compares Bibble Pro 4.2.6 , Raw Magick Lite 0.989b , DxO Optics Pro 3.0 beta , Adobe Photoshop CS2 + ACR 3.1 , Dave Coffin's latest DCRaw, Breeze Browser 2.9 , C1 Pro 3.5.2 , Nikon Capture Editor 4.2.1 , Picasa 2 , Raw PhotoDesk 1.12 , Raw Shooter Essentials 1.1.2

One aside is the author discovered that the raw image is actually 3040 x 2014, but most Raw converters discard some pixels to give 3008 x 2000. See this simulated comparison shot

I feel a bit uneasy about that comparison - it seems the results tend to be skewed very much in one direction: Raw Magick.

Interesting set of images.
Remarkable amount of difference between converters.
Makes me reconsider the use of Nikon Capture and its speed vs developing a new workflow... Hmmm

Onyx

The link was from a guy on the raw magick forum, so there is the possibility of bias in the comments, but the images speak for themselves
