Hi All

Does anyone have any experience with extended warrantys on cameras and do you think they are worth the additional cost?

I once bought a Ford Falcon and paid heaps for an extended warranty but when an oil filter mechanism packed it in, I discovered that the warranty covered very little and certainly not the oil filter gears and whatnot.

When I purchased it, I was told the extended warranty took over from when the manufacturers warranty ran out. Yeah - right!

Cheers

Graham

I bought a camera and got the extended warranty, but nothing ever happened to it. Now I think, if anything is going to go wrong it will happen early or not for a long time. It is really hard to tell though. I think that that the Mack warranties on lenses are really good though because they are pretty cheap and the warranty is then for 7 years.

I've never found extended warranties to be cost effective, because they mostly only cover manufacturer's defects, and not normal wear and tear.

Some warranties issued in US however, covers a whole range of other things, including (subject to interpretation) abuse and accidents. Now these kinda covers can be worth it!
