Hi guys/girls............haven't posted for ages. Computers upgraded and broadband connected! YAY :D

Can anyone recommend a cheap, good quality, underwater point & shoot digi? I'm doing a PADI Open Water Course over the next 2 weekends (another expensive hobby :roll: ), and I'd like to experiment with underwater pics. Can't afford an underwater housing for my beautiful D70, hence my question.

Anyone?

Thanks in advance,

Steve

Isn't there an inexpensive housing that suits the Nikon PHDs ?

And do Ewa still make their Marine Bag?

Werewolf, enjoy getting diver certified...
The cheapest P&S option would be to get a single use underwater cam, about $20 plus cost of processing. That is by far cheaper than trying to source a decent P&S model and find a housing for it (typically underwater housings cost as much as the camera it's made for).

It'll make you appreciate free air when you have to pay $20 to fill your air tank. ;)

I know Canon make a housing for their IXUS...

ISTR that it was ~$300 for the housing

Bit of a weird offer I know, but if you can beg/borrow/steal/buy a housing for a Canon Powershot A80 you're more than welcome to borrow my A80 for the 2 week course.

You will drive yourself nuts with a point and shoot underwater unless you shoot natural light only. Backscatter from the built in flash is a killer on most of the cheaper UW housings even in water with 50m vis.

D70 is great under water but you need to spend the $5k+ to accessorise it first.

Lucky she doesn't know :twisted:

If you can find a Fuji F700, then the underwater housing can be had for sensible money on Ebay;

Thanks folks for advice/offers (MCBW).........think I'll start with the film disposable, though it must be 3 years or more since I've had to have film developed :P

Then again there's always that Canon underwater rig on eBay for a cool $30,000!!!!

Chicken feed eh??
