What is it?

No doubt someone will guffaw but I can't figure out what the thing is. It came in the D70box and is small and black plastic. It has the words Nikon DK-5 written on it. It is the size of the flash coupling. I thought it was a blank for the flash but it won't fit there. It does slip over the viewfinder if you remove the rubber cup, but if so to what end? It blanks out any view. Any comments gratefully received.

You picked it Dargan, goes over the viewfinder to prevent stray light entering on long exposures

No guffaw here Dargan, I wondered the very same thing. In fact, it annoyed me until I discovered its purpose which you pretty much worked out and Glen confirmed. I saw a reference to it on a site somewhere.

Funny how those pesky little things can intrigue you isn't it?

The “Q” now is, will you ever use it???? :?

I just put my open hand over the view finder to do the same job 8)
Saves pulling the eye cup every time

Is that what it is? Hell! I thought it was the minuture remote! I spent 3 days pressing the bloody thing until my fingers started to bleed...and the damned camera didn't fire once!

Matt, yours is actually a listening device. Now who is listening?
