Hey guys!
Did a search and could'nt find a thing about it, but iam sure it's been discussed. How much are cable/bulb release's for the D70? Are they the same device as used by film camera? Are they readily available?

I believe the only off camera shutter release possibility for the d70 is the IR remote. There is nowehere for a cable/bulb arrangement to go.

Thanks Birddog, but this gives me no knowledge on the product at all, just tryed to google it, no results returned.

That's genuine Nikon EM-EL3 remote control for the D70 camera

The reason Google didn't return an answer is because it's a ML-L3 not a EM-EL3.

It's Nikon ML-L3 Remote controller

There's a shutter mechanism you can buy which has a velcro strap that goes around the grip of the camera and has a little bit that hovers over the shutter... in you plug your cable release and voila! instant cable release.

It isn't price friendly for what it is, however.

The new D70s has a socket for MC-1 shutter release cable.

Click, what you *need* is a D70s - with optional MC-1 cabled remote shutter release.

Hi all,

Have been lurking here for a long time and have been enjoying my few month old D70 for some time now. One thing I've been wanting for a while is an ML-L3 remote, but they are pretty expensive here in Australia and hard to find.

So, I went down to my local Jaycar store and picked up a TV key chain remove (code AR1730) on special at the moment for $9. I then tried all of the Sanyo TV codes (having read that Vol+ on some Sanyo codes should fire the shutter) and guess what... it works! Programming the remote with Sanyo code 11134 enables the Vol + button to fire the shutter with the remote.

Does the ML-L3 allow the shutter to be held open for longer than 30 secs...If not what is 'Bulb' on the shutter speed selection, if you can't buy a device to hold it for minutes at a time...

when in bulb mode, the shutter release works differently.

One press and release opens the shutter, the second press closes the shutter. I'm pretty sure the button on the remote acts the same way in bulb mode.

It should also be mentioned here that Nikon conveniently made the bulb function contingent on buying the remote. This is something I'm coming to grips with all of a sudden.

I didn't realize that. . I've always used the remote in conjunction with bulb mode to avoid camera shake, but I assumed you could use the regular shutter release.

Just keep winding shutter speed up past 30 secs and you'll get to BULB.

Im sure I read a post somewhere (DPReview?) that Nikon are supposedly providing the ability to do a retrofit of the D70s cable release to the D70.

Anyone else seen anything along these lines??

I don't have the D70s yet but will have them tomorrow for Saturday test drive and I'll tell you what type of connector it is.

I never heard any official news from Nikon for making an optional of MC-1 for the existing D70 body. You know that everyone can have their dream as ISO 50, MLU, vertical grip on the ex-D70 and now is MC-1 shutter release cable we can live on those can we?

You have to figure it out yourself: how it can be connected to the ex-D70 body? thru the lens?
On the D70 body no external pin for external devive, except USB, power connector, where is Nikon going to make a modification for the MC-1?

Im dragging up this old post because i bought a ML-L3 and i cant get it to work. Suspecting that the battery was a dud i replaced it today and still cant get it to work. I understand that you have to fire the remote from in front but i have tried all angles without success. My question is - is there a special setting i need to activate on my camera for the remote control to work or am i missing something here. Please help - im getting frustrated

Welcome back Willy Wombat (WW),

yes, camera setting:

press the button closest to the viewfinder on the left hand side ( looks like folder and also has a red formt writing next to it),
keep it pressed, then use the dialing wheel on the right hand side of
the camera.
You will be scroling through some symbols on the LCD:
S (to start off = single), "folders" = bracketing, clock = self timer, clock with "symbol" and then "symbol" (looks like a transmitting something)
That is how you set the D70 for remote IR control.
