Adobe Camera Raw Help!Ok i just updated nikon capture to 4.2 ... and its still a greedy pig of a thing that i refuse to use. Anyway, that argument aside, it has replaced my Adobe CS camera Raw plugin with the original Nikon type one ... so ive downloaded the latest Adobe Camera Raw 2.4 beta, and copied the .8bi file over to the relevant directory, but it still doesnt load it.
any ideas where im going wrong?
disregard, fixed it.
Found there are TWO locations for "file formats" and the location that adobve speaks of, is in my case, incorrect. Adobe said to put into plugins\file formats\ ... infact i foudn there is a plugins\adobe photoshop only\file formats (also had to remove a nikon-made .8bi file.) sweet. (leaving this here for archival purpose incase someone comes across the same problem.)
nah just had to remove the "nikon nef plugin.8bi" file that nikon capture update put back in there ... which i knew, but the issue was i was looking in the wrong "file formats" folder and scratching my head as to how CS was still loading the lightweight nikon nef plugin
Thanks for that Brad... I had exactly the same problem for the same reasons and you saved me having to figure it out...
Cheers, John

For the benefit of any confused readers.......
Matt is referring to the pesky Nikon plugin which insinuates itself into the PS folder, sometimes in more than one place. It is a right pain in the butt. And when darb says "nah", he probably means "yeah, that's right Matt" because the damn Nikon plugin not only goes into the file formats folder, but also into other places, and so you need to remove all traces of it, wherever it may be. I have been annoyed by this until realising that you nned to ensure that you have removed all instances of it. Greg - - - - D200 etc

I'm glad I found this thread because I was going insane. I went out today and took some photos using my trusty D70. When I got home I downloaded them to have a look (as you do). It was taking a minute to generate a preview per image. After reading this thread I realised that I had reinstalled Nikon Capture this week and it probably was taking priority over ACR. Upon removing the Nikon NEF plugins I had an operational file browser back again.
The moral of this story is, Nikon makes great cameras and lousy software! Cheers, Bruce
