Here's a query for the technically minded.

On p45 of the manual and p62 there is a reference to the buffer capacity for Raw, Fine, Norm and Basic shots. Within these quality options are the choice of L (Large) M (Medium) and S (Small). Paradoxically the buffer size is less at medium (1.6Mb) than at L (2.9Mb), the same situation is evident in other quality options. Thinking this was a typographical error, as in typo, I looked at the camera r-indication and found excatly the same figures repeated.

What is going on? How can you have a bigger buffer for larger files than smaller size files in the same camera? There must be a simple explanation. Can anyone suggest an answer.

Dargan! This is a guess, but I think because the camera has to apply more JPEG compression to the smaller files...it takes a little longer in the buffer. Just a guess.

Just a guess, but it might be due to the M size not being an easy downsampling size. S size is exactly 1/4 of L size, so the downsampling is relatively straightforward. M is not such an even downsampling size, so maybe the camera needs to store an intermediate image - which then takes up some of the buffer.

gooseberry's right - it's to do with the interpolation/downsizing thingy.
