I have done a search because I am sure that this question has been asked before, but I tirned up nearly 1800 possibilitys :?

So I have just attached the Sigma 12-24 and taken some shots using the in camera flsah and there is a nasty shadow in the bottom centre of the image. It appears that the lens hood cannot be removed, so what is the answer?

Shoot more telephoto, or use a dedicated flash unit (SB600/800/etc). Or maybe ghetto reflector/bounce card setup? One of the perils of big wide-ish angle lenses and inbuilt flash I'm afraid, the 24-120 VR at 24 mm does this too if the lens hood is attached.

I have an SB800, but as I only received the lens today I was really only playing.

Ah fair enough! The SB800 will solve your problems. :)

I'd like to be able to say that you bought the Sigma when you should have bought the Nikon 12-24 (which is smaller), but I have this problem with the onboard flash even with the Nikon

My solution is my soon to be purchased SB800 - you already have that solution.

I just bought the Nikkor 80-400 so I could not afford the Nikkor wide angle as well.

I will try it out this weekend (hopefully) and post some pics on monday.

Oneputt, don't be embarressed by your 12-24 Stigma, you chose the superior alternative if straight lines matter to you
