Set camera to manual focus, this may fix your problem.

Are you taking a pic in a relatively small area or relatively short distance where you could set focus using a torch or something, then once focus is set flick to manual focus and setup for when you're ready to take a pic?

Dunno if that helps...

Have you set the camera to work with the remote, as this has to be set to work.......

Once you have set camera to work with remote, remote works best when aimed towards RH side of camera when looking from lense side. Also check battery is not flat.

One point other than what's already been siad re: using manual. There is NO mirror lock up feature on the D70 (other than for cleaning purposes)

Alternatively, read page 107-110 in the manual. That should help you heaps with your problem.

If you're for some strange reason taking a long exposure of a landscape, setup while there is still some light and switch to MF once set? :)

Ask Dooda he seems to do a fair few night shots, however I think some of those have enough like to focus.

I thought you were the Taiwanese or mainlanders in front of me when I was on the bus with their D200. It was 8pm at night on the bus and they were pointing outside at the darkness taking photos and wondering why their photos are blurry.  And they were also wondering why the autofocus isn't working in complete darkness... I mean, the owner was "too proud" flashing his new camera around but then he's an idiot-jerk.

But since you have a D70 then I think you're not one of those guys.

FYI, I'm Hong Kong Chinese-Australian.
