Prices for prints dropping

Postby stubbsy on Fri Jun 03, 2005 2:21 pm

Interesting article in todays SMH

http://smh.com.au/articles/2005/06/01/1 ... 25078.html

Basically says competition between retailers is driving down photo kiosk 6 x 4 prices and forcing inkjet manufactueres to drop consumables costs to compete. Gives Epson a nice plug.

I have noticed this, with prices continually dropping over the past 12 months or so.
Unfortunatly its only happened with 6 x 4s i haven't seen any of the other sizes budge on price!

Big W might have 20c prints but they are pretty much complete AGFA garbage. The other trick they use is that the ordinary prints are 20c but they bumped up the price of matt prints to 56c ea. Something that the kiosk machine will not tell you.

Kmart prints are 33c most of the time, i got a heap done where i get my printing done at 29c but normally 50c which i think is dear. I dont do a lot of these 6x4's but sometime the customers will order 8x12 prints and a couple of 6x4's, i know i could get my printing dones elsewhere in the sate or interstate like Melbourne cheaper but then take into account postage and so on would work out close to the same.
Cheers
John

Hardly Normal are 33c for 6x4s. I think Teds are 29c now. Many of the places on Elizabeth St in Melbourne are about that price as well. If it drops any further, I think it will squeeze out the smaller players.

Julian, i dont think we have to worry about our Hardley Normal as there machine is never working, last few months it's been dead, and really i am not sure how the shop that does my printing can still sell them at 50cents, but well they do and glad i dont sell or need many only when they have a special i will get a heap done for my small albums.
