Sorry guys, just cant help myself. :D

Been on a spending spree today and got a LowePro Mini Trekker AW (coz my Nova is too small and I really dislike shoulder bags), along with a SB-800 (coz my old dedicated flashes dont work with the D70 :( - well thats the excuse anyway), plus an extra Lexar 512 80x (coz I keep takin too many pictures :P)

The dog is gonna be seriously peeved. Its got to the stage now where she hides her head in her beanbag whenever I bring out the camera. :D

I have so missed having a flash other than the on-camera blinker.

The missus will be peeved too, but that will be for a different reason

Ha ha, good thing the dog's got a beanbag, because I think you'll be occupying the doghouse for a while!

Have fun with the new stuff!

Speaking about serious lust .... Is there any news about Sigma 30mm 1:1.4?

Honestly, negative, we won't hear or see it for a while.
If I have it, I'll let the Sigma Chairman runs the Sigma mass at 2:00am on Saturday mini-meet.

Lens lust already seriously exists. A 300 f2.8 would look very good sitting in the corner of the lounge - when I wasnt out using it of course... Then there's the macro lens. Then the replacement for the current 80-200 (the 70-200 VR of course)... then... then... then...

Sorry guys, Im already royally smitten with NAS

Gary,
hehehe
 You should bring it to the mini meet often for members doing the test drive.

Have Leigh bought you a Manfrotto Steering wheel to replace the odd one?

Actually, the Quattro has an aftermarket Momo, and i have the original Alfa wheel in the garage. Might be useful ...

Then again, I'd much prefer the "Personal" that's on the GTV ...

Hmmmm ... I could pull the one off the 1750, but it's in need of serious restoration. That's both the wheel, and the 1750.

Gary,

What did you buy??

I got a bit frustrated last night. Tried to get all keen and do my first SB-800 shots with the SB-800 as the remote. It just wouldnt fire the SB-800.

Finally found a two liner in the SB-800 manual mentioning that for the D70 to act as Commander, the remote SB-800 has to be in:
Group A
Channel 3

Worked fine after that

Yes, that's not exactly the most intuitive setting, is it? :)

And you need to note where, exactly, the information was buried in the SB800 manual. Kind of like the notice about demolishing the earth to make way for a hyperspace bypass, really.

 Having a HGTTG Day are we??
No, definitely not intuitive. Would have made far more sense to make it G=A, C=1 and that way it would work by default. I think I might have to get the highlighter and a bookmark out, or else write a little cheat card and laminate it for the bag.

I just checked this out on DPreview. Some Canon guy says that it's going for $450 US. That sounds pretty good considering the Nikkor 28 1.4 retails for approximately 1 zillion.

Check it out here if you dare http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read. ... e=13737502

I'll be looking into this little piece of potential magic for sure. They say that things look good for it, but that's optimism and hope springing forth. Who knows, probably not very good wide open, but for that speed I'll still take it, I don't mind a little softness over blur or overcrop or even tons of noise.
The Sigma 20mm 1.8 does really well wide open, maybe the same will be for the 30 1.4
