Competition photo warnings to all

The English "Photography Monthly" magazine, September Edition warns on page 94, that people who enter photo competitions may be giving their photo copyright away.

The article suggests that you read the entry conditions carefully, and avoid conditions such as:

"You agree that we have the right to the reproduction and exhibition of all entries free of charge"

Two current competitions that allegedly have such conditions are:

Princess Cruises Escapes Travel Photography awards 2004
and
Wanderlust Magazines Travel Photo of the Year Award competition

Remember, always read the conditions

The BIG print giveth
The fine print taketh away

Cheers

Graham

I'm only trying to contribute relevant postings and be a good forum person

Not trying to be negative at all, just helpful

I'm just glad that Agfanet wasn't one of those mentioned as i submitted a photo to it the other day :)

Your warning is most welcome and helpful.

Bago
This has ben the case for many years and I thank you for bringing it up for the members of this forum. Do not enter any competition that demands you to give away your rights ...even if you don't win a prize!
It's one of the oldest cons.
Tell em to stick it!

And sure is our forum's challenges are not the same type of it, and we have our assurance don't we?
Perhaps that make people wonder when come to photo competition or challenge!
