Not sure if this should have gone in the "Humour" section.
Here is the prototype to my home-made LS-II all fot AU$1.90 curtesy of Bunnings
Here are the before and after photos.

Phillip,

It looks like it might be a little too opaque for good light transmission. I'll be interested to see your results though.

Might want to remove the SB800 diffuser Phillip? As Gary says, I think this will chew through batteries pretty fast given the opacity of the plastic.

The plastic is not as dense as it looks, probably due to the on board flash, but if it is anywhere near workable I intend to find a half dome to stick to the front

Ok, here is a very scientific test.
I took shots of my dusty monitor from the same distance with a 50mm lens at identical exposure settings.

Photo 3 - SB800 with home-made diffuser

Photo 4 - SB800 with home-made diffuser & flash set to +2 (since you seem to loose about 2 stops with this contraption)

You should be able to see the difference in the hot spot on the screen.

P.S. I still haven't been able to get any live volunteers for portraits, even my dog runs away when she sees me coming.
