Do Nikon Lenses Really Have A World Wide Warranty?

The reason I ask this is because I placed an order with HK Supplies last week for a 70-300 (till I can save up for a Nikon AFS VR 70-200mm f2.8 ED-IF G lens) and I just received the lens this morning. The lens did not come with a warranty card, so I contacted Poon and advised him of this, and also requested if this could be sent to me (I was under the impression that Nikon lenses had an international warranty - please correct me if I am wrong).

Poon replied with the following:

I am sorry that the item does not come with international warranty card.

Even with card, Australia agent will not honor it as they are also seller and want to protect their high profit.

In case there is problem, kindly send back to me and I will give you one year free service.


I have purchased a lens from JD-OnlineShop previously, and the lens came with a warranty card (Nikon Singapore) and I am assuming an international warranty.

I would appreciate if members with more experience from purchasing lenses/accessories from overseas retailers could clarify the above. I was really happy with the whole transaction with HK Supplies and I really wanted to purchase my SB-800 from Poon today ($350 US including shipping), but I am now a bit hesitant and I am wondering should I purchase elsewhere?

Ok,
With Nikon International warranty, you should receive in the box the following:
1/ Local Nikon warranty (Singapore/ Australia/ Hongkong etc... )
2/ International Warranty form with small print.
3/ Invoice or receipt from seller/ dealer.
If you don't have one of them then no International warranty will be honoured.

Back to HKG supplies, to purchase from Mr. Poon with International Warranty you have to request him from the beginning as I advised Woody and other members, I posted few posts there re# warranty and International warranty.

All Nikon lenses come with a concrete warrenty. The moment you step out of the shop and onto the concrete....you're on your own.

I did ask Poon about the warranty BEFORE I purchased the SB-800 and I got the same answer, "If anything goes wrong send it back to Hong Kong". He would not send me a warranty card, this is why I was so nervous ordering it.

It seems like you can't get an international warranty card from HKSupplies, well at least 2 of haven't been able to.

I got from him with 3 items bought!
Perhaps there's price difference though!

Yeah maybe there is a price limit for warranties, Can't understand why though. I would have thought providing a warranty card is better for him so if something goes wrong we don't have to go back to him.

What I have known it, product he sells they come from a grey import markets/ sources and from Japan, China etc... and prices is difference than products originally from Nikon Hongkong with International warranty.
Prices are difference though, and they're.

Thanks for all the input on this thread.

I have spoken with Mr Poon late last night. He seemed very concerned that I was not happy with the purchase (for the record, I am happy with the purchase). He told me that I am the first person (out of several hundred) who has been so worried about not receiving a warranty card; he does not want to have an unhappy customer. He has offered me the option to return the lens to him and his company will me with a full refund for the whole purchase - including shipping. My main concern with not having the warranty card was proving original ownership of the lens should I ever wish to sell it.

Mr Poon does seem genuine, and I will keep the lens as it only cost me $200AU with shipping via EMS. To be honest, I cannot really complain for the price.

I am purchasing the Nikon AFS VR 70-200mm f2.8 ED-IF G lens in the next 6-8 weeks (my 30th birthday present and Christmas present from my husband), but I just could not wait so decided to grab this budget lens in the mean time to play around with. I plan to have it as a "back up", or sell it once I have purchased the Nikon AFS VR 70-200mm f2.8 ED-IF G lens.

I am just deciding if I should get my SB-800 from Mr Poon, or look elsewhere - probably on eBay and see if I can get a similar deal ($350 US including shipping via EMS).

You will happy with the future purchase of the 70-200Vr, which I have one and it's mostly on my D2h for all the assingments, I have the TC-14EII and the TC-20EII, I used the TC-14EII very often than the TC-20.

Ok here we go:
Another birthday present and another Xmas present and another New Year present, I like all these terms.

I hope Santa will drop by and leave the 200-400VR under my Xmas tree.
I wish I'll have the NewYear 300/ 2.8 VR by Chinese New Year.
Lastly, I want my D2x or the repalcement of my D100 to D?????? by my birthday in June.

Am I asking too much????

Birddog, you must have very deep pockets, or very generous friends/relatives! :-) That is some serious camera equipment!

Update on HK Supplies: I spoke with Poon again today and sorted out the situation. I also went ahead and purchased the SB-800 from him. He assures me that he will honour any warranty for my purchases during the warranty period. I hope I get the SB-800 by the end of the week. Poon is a very nice person and I recommend him to others as well.

Nikon lenses (and accessories like flashes etc) do have international warranty. You just need the warranty card and official receipt showing date of purchase. Unfortunately many suppliers in Hong Kong remove the warranty cards when they ship overseas (if you buy over the counter, they will have the warranty cards), so you need to clarify with them beforehand, but some may still remove the warranty card anyway - which is quite annoying.

As I mentioned earlier, they do have International Warranty on most of Nikon gears, except Digital stuff,
In HKG over the counter: yes you can get,
Mail or online order: you have to ask and confirm with the seller.
International Warranty sometime does not affect with local disti. or their agents. They send it back to Nikon and you have to wait until it get back to your local country.

For all my lust, I have a bug in my blood and could not treat or eliminate it out, but I used those terms to excuse myself and my family member of having them. They want to see me smile and they are happy also.

Snafu - your gear acquisition will soon match that of Birddog's collection at the rate you're going! ;)

But once again, it's nice to hear of Mr Poon and HK Supplies taking the time, post sales, to address your concerns regarding your lens purchase - it goes to show that great service, although very rare, is still not extinct this day in age.

I know who I'll be buying my 80-200 or 70-200VR from! :)
