Monitor Calibration - I've seen the light!!!

OK... I finally got around to installing my 2nd monitor, so I now have a Dell 17" LCD screen and an LG 19" CRT staring at me and crowding out my desk...
I can recommend this config to anyone as it provides you with a lot more space and flexibility to organise your (virtual) desktop and workflow...
However, it has reinforced the need to calibrate my monitor(s)... While I was perfectly happy before, now that I have the 2 monitors to compare, neither seems to look natural...
The LCD actually looks slightly better at the moment, with more vivid colours, but the CRT sometimes seems to supply added detail to the photos...
If my photos look this bad on your monitors then it's no wonder that I receive so few comments...
Looks like I will have to find a Spyder to calibrate these suckers...

Hi Leek,
Dell LCD have tendency to be a bit darker than average. There is a button where the monitor "auto" adjust itself. Use that and add a bit of brightness. Most people out there don't have their monitor calibrated. so if your is calibrated, it is neccessary going to meant that they will see exactly what you see. In fact, it is going to be the other way round.

John - you are more than welcome to my Spyder to calibrate your monitors - Glen has it at the moment but he is only five minutes away from me

True enough Arthur, but I would at least like to see roughly the same image on my two monitors... I didn't think that it was that critical, but the images I see on my two monitors are TOTALLY different... I would at least like to correct that...

IMHO, if monitor looks better with more vivid colours your prints might look dull in comparison to monitor because monitor emits light and paper reflects light partially absorbing it. Monitor calibrated for
moderate light environment usually looks bit dull in my experience
