Photoshop CS2 and Win2K

Postby christiand on Tue Jun 21, 2005 12:01 am

Hi all,

I downloaded the trial version of Adobe Photoshop CS2 and tried to install it on Win2K SP4.
It gives me an error: error 1324, there is an invalid character in the path to MyPictures and and it quits installing after I acknowledge.
I did some searches and couldn't find anything useful.
Would anybody have an idea or even an answer to the problem ?

Cheers

I guess I'd start by looking at the path to MyPictures. While it will show inside My Documents it's actually in a very different location physically. To see it's actual location, right click its name in Windows Explorer then choose properties. The actual location will show next to the Location: heading. It will most likely start with C:\Documents and Settings

I'm wondering if the length of the folder path is too long for the installer to handle (eg more than 128 characters) - this is a long shot.

One other possibility is it may not support Win 2K!

Christian,

Try copying the CD to your hard drive and installing from there. It could be a problem with the CD driver.

Next, it could be one or more registry keys that have gone sideways. You could try moving the My Pictures folder elsewhere (eg C:\...) using tweakUI. That might straighten it out. Move it back later.

The event viewer can be your friend here. Follow the link in the properties box for that error and it may lead you to a resolution at the MS KB.

found the solution

Postby christiand on Tue Jun 21, 2005 11:10 pm

Hi all,

I found something on TechNet, it is related to installing Office XP where the same error may occur.
The suggested action was to run regedit and search the registry for the offending string; in this case it is My Pictures.
I did that and I found entries pointing to e: My Pictures, which is my CDROM drive.
I deleted those entries and Photoshop CS2 is now installing.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Happy snapping ...
