Can someone 'please explain'...

Postby Geoff on Wed Jul 20, 2005 4:58 am

Hi all,
Just wondering why the big price difference in the following lenses:

Nikkor AF-S 17-35mm/2.8 IF ED Lens + CL-76 + HB23 - (New) $2725

Nikkor AF-S 17-55mm/f2.8 IF ED DX Lens...now available - (New) $2250

Thought this was odd, I know the 17-35 comes with CL-76 + the hood but it shouldn't make that much difference. These prices are ECS, just having a look about, of course I would always utilise our great Birdman! :)

1/ G lens is always cheaper
2/ the build of 17-35 is far difference from the 17-55
3/ The 17-35's focus distance is closer than the 17-55. (17-35 = 0.28m closest)
4/ The 17-35 is one of Nikon legend in film day to now after the Nikkor 20-35 in the late of 80s, and can be used both on DSLR or SLR.
5/ Perhaps full frame of Nikon DSLR is on the horizon and the 17-35 will work on it easy.
6/ Most famous Pros on the other side of the world choose or select the 17-35 instead of 17-55 for their daily use.
