The new range of Ipod's with picture capability is out today. Dont think many would choose one over an Epson P2000, but may be of interest for those who want mainly a music solution

Looks very interesting.
I am still looking for a
PSD, for use during vacations. Nexto-CF, Xdrive VP3320, or ipod.
I will be looking further into it, I can get EDU pricing too. Great for holidays, music and backing up images.

I was looking at the Irivers the other day.. the H340...
Which can play music, store pics (cant review NEFs I imagine) and even view mpegs...
has a build in USB 1.1 host so just connect mass storage device and go...

Yeah, I'm looking at the iRiver and the Samsung boxes.
The iPods have never impressed me, in both design, compatibility, and value.
These aren't much better, and Apple withdrawing the 40gb
model just tells me how little they care about value.

I have an iPod. I bought it for its looks - its design and interface were what made me want it. So far as compatability? Best I know its only compatability problem is with DRM WMA files. I'm not even vaguely interested in buying music online in poor encoding quality for the same as I can pay to buy it on high quality CD so I don't see that as an issue
Won't disagree on price or the odd decision to dump the 40Gb.
Did I say it also looks nice

Hi Stubbsy, thinking about purchasing the new ipods, for music, and pics.
Want to be able to show my portfolio to anyone I meet. Also thinking about plugging it into my TV for slideshows

I too have a 40gig iPod and find it looks and works excellent as stubbsy said. I use if for mass storage for my photos when i go hiking or camping for a couple of days and have had no issue with it.

Stubbsy, what colour do you have? I ask because I know that colour "looks nice" as has been mentioned once or twice

Glen, red makes it faster (transferring files, that is).

I bought an Iriver 512 meg iFP-795 last month. It's a flash solid state with FM radio.
If anyone just wants an mp3 player with fm radio capability to use while exercising (in my case - jogging and some weights), iriver is very highly recommended if my purchase is representative of the quality of all irivers.
Anyhow, I'm delighted with mine.
I decided against the latest microdrive because I was not sure whether or not the microdrives would last very long in an exercise environment.
Good luck with your decision
Cheers
Graham

After you use them once, they change colour

I seem to have been the only one to buy a "Coolwalker". Loaded about 20 GB during the holidays, worked well and foud the possibility of copying images from the HD on to CF very handy as I kept the family photos backed up on CF. I just can't stand the sight of an Ipod, I guess that's mainly because of the ripoff they are...
Cheers,
Gerard

Agreed, Birdy.
That said, I'm using Dad's old mp3 player, the Muvo2, which I tell people is roughly the same size as a condom (I'm not kidding either), thickness not included in that size, mind you, and I'm pretty sure the audio jack is dying on it.
So, while the Microdrive in it is fine, the audio jack on it seems to be dying first.

It's an mp3 player!! Why would you even compare it to a 'coolwalker' etc?

If it's only the MP3, other devices is more far better and economical than.
Some of our members intent to use it to store their pics as well

yep, ipods are mp3 players and it is a great one too. I just hope apple gets there act together to launch (itune) music store in australia.
The extra stuff that the new ipod can do will be a bonus.
If you want a
PSD, for professional use, there are other great options, such as epson, nexto, xdrive.....etc
