What's your avatar doing stuck on these barrels? Have you become a pacifist?

HMAS Vampire. No doubt it's a bat on the end of the gun.

4.5 inch to be exact.

Well, i don't know about that but i do know there are seven seas. :)

Just a point of interest. HMAS Vampire is a destroyer. The RAN has never had a battleship in it's inventory. The largest ship we had was HMAS Australia which saw service in WWII, in the North Atlantic, the Med, the Indian ocean and the Pacific. It was a County class heavy cruiser and had eight 8 inch guns. Fortunately it survived the war but was scrapped shortly afterwards.

HMAS Sydney which was sunk of Geraldton in WA by a german armed merchant cruiser, was a 6 inch light cruiser and was sister ship to HMAS Canberra which was sunk off Gaudalcanal during a battle with Japanese forces. I was able to attend a commemoration of the sinking of Canberra when i was in the Solomon Islands last year.

There are a few pics of The Solomons in my smugmug gallery.
