Raw conversion software ?

Postby shutterbug on Fri Jul 01, 2005 3:03 pm

Ok, I have been a 100% jpeg shooter, love it too. Currently I got some spare time and want to try some raw images, before the peak wedding season starts.

What software does everyone use to convert the raw files? I heard nikon capture is not very good? Most people use Bibble and ACR? Any free ones?

RAW Shooter Essentials is free and does quite a good job.

Hi Vince,

I have just started using Adobe's Camera Raw plug in for Photoshop. Looks to have all the adjustment controls that you might need.

I always use NC, and now NC4.3 the PSCS after.
I have nothing to complaint about NC, Not a big deal but it works with my case and needs. I have fast PCs, heaps of RAM, ton of Gig of Hdd, so I found NC is not too slow with me and use it daily.

I'm a big fan of Nikon Capture. I've enhanced it slightly with the addition of Nik Color Efex for Nikon Capture, but do 90% of my PP there. Only time I go near PS CS is if I need to edit the image (eg clone a dust bunny).

Thank you guys.

Another question, refering to NC, just say a selected a batch of images that I wanted to "auto level" Can I batch convert the selected image all at once? or do I have to go through every single image?
cheers

yes you can in PSCS2 and also in PSCS using Russell Brown Action or script which is found at......

http://www.russellbrown.com/tips_tech.html

but not if you have loaded Nikon Capture software as it takes over your raw images

Do a search on this forum for Rawshooter. It is fast and allows batch conversion, and IMO leaves NC for dead. And it's free.
