I've just bought a Canon 350D with the standard lens.
This is my first SLR camera. So I'm Absolutley new to this camera talk and have no idea what any of it means.

The wife did photography in High School and is already keen to get a better lens. So looks like I will be allowed to spend $$$ on this new hobby.

My interests in photography are landscapes, specially panorama's. If only I had a camera like this for the honeymoon in UK, Ireland and Scotland.

I'm a mate of Geoff's ( If he's still talking to me, cause I didn't buy a Nikon ) and he pointed me to this site.

Birddog, I'm hoping to get to 30 posts to buy a Lowerpro bag and maybe some memory.

Here is a picture of a flower I took using the standard kit lens. This is from the card in jpg format with no editing, other than resizing the image.

First I heard about it was 'we've bought a digital SLR, it's a canon'...and yes, I had told them how great my D70 was for a long time. Anyway, I don't want this to turn into a war . 350D = great cam...he just can't use my array of lenses, including my 400VR, 70-200VR, 17-55DX, 50mm 1.4 lenses...

Pls. don't forget he can buy an adapter to use your Nikkor lenses on his 350D

I have 4 mates with Nikon ( 3 x D100, 1 x D70 ) and I still bought a Canon. Don't know why, but I like the look of the 350D compared to the D70.

Like I said, I know nothing on DSLR, and have probably entered the dark side of the forum.

An adapter, mmm. Geoff how about it?

I'd probably be talking to ECS, Fletcher's or Ted's for one of these; I really don't know how common they are. I also don't know that Vanbar would stock them either, as they don't sell anything Canon.

I knew and seen one pro-photogs has the Canon 1Ds MKII with a Nikkor 500 AF-S last weekend up in the Bay area, I had a chat with him and he showed me an adaptal attached to a Nikkor he let me play with it and try couple shots, it's .
I also asked him why did he use the combo:
He borrowed lens form his mate, whom got the D2x and worked for one of the paper in Sydney, secondly he said price of Nikkor is cheaper than Canon and he thinking to get a D2x for himself so he can play both games.
I also have seen few adaptal rings which can be mounted on the Canon mount for Nikkor lens, though they're working well but didn't think we need them.

My partner who shoots canon has an adaptor ring. He bought it from Camera Exchange in Melbourne, though I'm sure you'll find it elsewhere. I think it cost him less than $100.
He uses it for the Nikkor 80-200 mostly and the main drawback being that it is manual focus only.
Not sure if one exists that autofocuses - was your friend's adaptor have AF Birddog?

Welcome Warwick - for someone that is new to dslr’s your first pic looks to be the start of more to come in the very near future - keep on posting
