Hi All,
I am just about to embark on my overseas holiday with all my camera gear, laptop and external HDD and I have received a quote in the vicinity of AUS$1000.
Ouch! I can hear you saying. Yep, my jaw hit the ground as well! I won't allude to the name of the travel insurance company, however I am asking those of you who insure your camera gear (and have had travel insurance previously) who do you insure your camera goods through?
Thanking you in advance.
Cheers,
Mick.

I know that usually standard travel insurance ($300) covers up to $3000 for video/camera systems and $5000 for laptops. Considering, that you have some very expensive lens, I can only guess thats the reason for the mark-up. Wonder if you can insure those puppies separately?

Hi mickwhit,
I have home contents and building insurance with
AAMI.
I've also insured my camera gear with them and I would have to look up the details but $300 is covering several thousand dollars and the first 30 days overseas are covered aswell.
It also is an idiot insurance, if I happen to drop my gear accidently into Sydney harbour, it is covered.
HTH,
CD

Like Christian my gear is covered (well is about to be since I'm just renewing) by my GIO home contents insurance. For $15,000 replacement value I've been quoted something like $250 to cover loss or damage outside my home.

Hi mick, I've just got insurance for a trip too. I went with
this company.
I paid approx $250 for 4 weeks worth of world wide insurance - which covers (amongst other things) $4k worth of camera equipment.

I'm currently checking out travel insurance too, with QBE (STA travel etc) you get an allowance for cameras/laptops/etc ($3K for the Europe policy, $4K US etc) plus you can insure gear over and above that limit as long as you have a receipt. It costs you 4% of the insured value, i.e. a $2K D70 kit can be insured for $80 [edit: this seems to be thte same as Wile_E's mob). HTH.
