which tripod to buy from this seller (link included)

Postby shockadelica- on Mon Jul 11, 2005 5:06 am

hey guys, i should have had a tripod by now..its been a while but because i dont have credit card ive put it off for quite some time.
the seller here sells gitzo tripods and they have a bank account in australia so i figured this may be the best bet for me

please take a look for me
http://stores.ebay.com.au/DigitalRev-AU-Photography-Shop_Tripods-and-Heads_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQftidZ2QQtZkm

now if i was hoping to get a markins M10 head would it fit on these tripods?

the only place i know of, that im able to purchase a markins head is here
http://www.markinsamerica.com/MA5/M10.php

i may have to ask a friend if he will allow me to use his credit card

any info is greatly appreciated..thanks

If you have at least AUD1500 to blow, then I'd go for a Gitzo/Markins combo. Make sure you remember to buy yourself a plate for the camera as well.

I went the 1325 over the 1227 gitzo because it was big and didn't have a centre column.

Same, also I believe I was told not to use the Markins America site and opt for the site in Korea.

Most definelty ditch the US site and use the Korean site. Cheaper and faster shipping.

Digital-Rev paying the GST is good. I think (not 100% sure) that those guys have some people over here in OZ who deal with it all.

In view that you are a member you could order the tripod via Birddog and pay him in cash @ D70Gear@D70Users.com.

As petal666 and Kipper have mentioned use the Korean website:
http://www.markins.com/2.0/eng/ballheads.html

When I imported my M20 Shipping was US$20. The transaction was processed via PayPal, therefore credit card required. I can not remember what other facilities they have available. What I will do over the coming days is to look back on past e-mail/s from them, to see what other processes they have in place for payment.

Shockadelicia, in view of the fact you are in Sydney, come to a minimeet and pick your own, most of us don't bite. Probably the only spot in Aus where you can see the full range. I second Fozzie and Huynhie advice. I would go for the Gitzo 1325 and RRS ballhead, but it depends on your long term aspirations for lens size. See what you think at a minimeet.

You have been at the mini meet, tried the G1325/ G1227/ G1027 and number of ballheads.
You have seen members came in with the thick wallet of cash and walked out lighter.
So the decision is yours not mine

Shocka, the 2227 & 2228 are tripods with variable legs and a rotatable centre column well suited to macro work. If macro is your primary interest it would be a good choice otherwise the others would be better. It seems as if you are buying what is convenient for the seller, not good for you.

If you are going to get big lenses later or want the most stable get a 13 series.

If weight is important or you lens needs will always be 300 f4 / 70-200 or smaller, pick a 12 series.

If you do a lot of macro, pick a 22 series.

Just for the record, on the only common item between this seller and Birddy, a 1588 monopod, with freight Birddy was $5 cheaper. Plus you can drive over and pay cash.

Good luck in your choices

may i ask apart from the maximum height, was is the difference between the 1325 and the 1227?
im only a short boy and that 1325 went way above my reach

thanks Glen i guess the 22 series may not be the best option for me

thanks for the link to that thread fozzie, i have looked up previous threads and didnt even know that one existed

birddog, i'd love to come and empty out my wallet on your table.
is it possible for you to help with a ballhead and plates to suit?

if not i guess i will have to go see a bank and get a credit card

You have been here, right? and asked many questions, right?
If you want to get what you wish to, then come back, see both tripod G1325/1227, heads, plates then make your own choice.
I'm able to do something for you but then your wallet is in your pocket, not in my possession.
