My favourite photo...ever

Hello All,
I hope you lucky people are enjoying your get-together today. I wish I could be there with you.

I've always wondered how some people had avatars attached to their posts so today I read my profile and found out how to do it. The photo I used is my very favourite photo of all time: not because it's a great shot (although it's pretty good considering the conditions) but because it was the Best shoot I ever went on. It was taken from a low-flying helicopter off the coast of Newfoundland on the eastern shore of Canada. It was the most awesome experience and a photographic challenge. To give you a size perspective, these bergs are enormous, the hundreds of black specs you see are actually seals.

I realize the avatar is tiny so if you wish, you can see a larger image here:

I wish I could have used this for my submission to the current water challenge but alas, it was taken a few years ago.

Hi Charandane.

Nice Pic! :-)

I will have to get around to adding an avatar to myself one of these days...

Cheers

Very nice pics, but I'm feeling cold, we're approaching summer and today is our first daylight saving time.
Cheers

Well you've all inspired me to get my own now. I've settled on a recently taken pic of my newborn son's feet!

Charadane, nice picture. It must have been an amazing trip.

That is a truly amazing photo. That iceberg looks like a lagoon. And of course beng that size above water, i'd only just imagine how much more is below the water.

What an amazing experience that would have been! So majestic.
Being able to capture moments like this so they'll never be forgotten makes me love photography.

I appreciate all your comments. It really was an unforgettable experience. Every time I view this shot, I appreciate all the wonderful memories our photos invoke.

You are heading into spring and we are heading into winter here. Yes, it does get to -40 on some days but only infrequently thank goodness.

Steve, they say that an iceberg is at minimum three times larger underwater than above water. You have no idea how big that sucker was, but there just wasn't anything around other than the seals, to give it perspective. The other thing on that trip that impressed me was the pilot's flying skills and of course the way my CP 990 performed under such conditions.
