Why is it? (grey square - not image)

Postby Willy wombat on Thu Jul 14, 2005 12:33 am

Why is it that when surfing this site at work, that i sometimes get a small grey square coming up instead of an image? Some hosting sites seem to be "blocked" and wont display the images, but this never happens for me at home. Its very frustrating. Does it have anything to do with Active X?

Thanks for any help you can give

WW,

The explanation may just be in your post. Sites may be blocked by admin to get you to do some work instead of browsing the forum :D

No ActiveX in these sites. I don't encounter too much ActiveX these days, it seems that ActiveX lives only at MS and in malware sites. JavaScript seems to be the rage. The last ActiveX site that I came across was a popular photographic supplier - I couldn't access their contact details, so used IE to get them. I sent them a polite email and they changed it within a month or so.

Cheers

There are ways around by-passing a web filter, when my work place first advised that they were going to introduce a web filter I instantly started searching for a trusted website that will 'act' as a proxy server, I now use the below web link to by-pass my work place web filter.... it doesn't work for everything such as webmail but it is stilll good for being able to read web forums and sport news
