Can anyone tell me if there is a noticible difference between filters from different manufacturers?
Hoya has a good reputation and a high price but are they twice as good as say Arrow? when you compare their prices for a CP for example, hoya is over twice the price.

and more expensive with the Super Pro 1 Thin Circular Polarizers

All Hoya filters from 62mm up is very expensive, I have few set of them in 3mm and 5mm HMC (CP, UV & Skylight) same as B&W brand

a nd perhaps the following link may answer part of your question:

Thanks Birddog, I kind of figured that the dearer filters would have better specifications, but I guess what I was trying to find out was if a cheap filter would degrade a photo to the extent that a very expensive lens with a cheap filter would become equivalent to a cheap lens without a filter.

550252 Hoya 52mm UV HMC $30.80
Shipping $8-00

Graham, I bought the Hoya UV HMC 67mm but I can't find the price.

However, I just bought the 52mm (above) at Camera Action - it had $39-95 on it, but the guy gave it to me for $35

cheers

Hi Greg
I think I might go for the Hoya 67mm UV HMC
Are you happy with it?
Also, you wouldn't be able to use a 52mm on the D70, would you, unless of course, its for a lens other than the kit lens
Thanks for replying
Cheers
Graham

Graham

Yes, I am very happy with the 67 which I have on the kit lens. I have bought a Hoya HMC UV filter for each lens to protect the front element.

I got the 52 to put on the 50mm f1.8 I bought a week ago.

And to day I got a 52-58 stepping ring so I can use my 58mm Infrared filter (which I bought for the G3) on the 50mm.

Very complicated business...

I have three lenses for the d70, filter sizes 67, 62 and 52.

I have a couple of 58 mm filters from the G3

And several 49mm filters from my OM1. Which I pretty much can't use.

Thank you for that Greg

I've ordered a 67 mm Hoya HMC UV filter online to protect the lens from wandering fingers and other things as well! The kit lens is just too valuable and good to leave unprotected for long.

Cheers
