Hey guys. Who goes to a local photo club and do you find it helpful or insightful?
I do, quite a few members have d70's too, and from what I have seen they produce the best results out of all the shots that get displayed.

Hi Owen
I havent been to my local camera club for 19 yrs. My experience was that when I joined I had so much to learn about taking good photos that I concentrated on that rather than the gear. A lot of the members were much older than me and had a lot of wisdom. I learnt nearly everything from them.
The other part that I really enjoyed was the feedback. I believe that true learnig and development of the art takes place with good feedback of your efforts. Having to submit, as I did, on a regular basis in B&W, which was my medium of choice, improved my photography amazingly. I went from looking at B&W's from other members in awe, to finding out all I needed to know and winnning the B&W of the year for that year.
Camera clubs can help you improve your photography irrespective of equipment and irrespective of whether it is digital or film. The 'art' itself is what a good camera club focuses on.
I wish you well.

I was involved in camera clubs for many years, even being president of one for quite a while. I learned such a lot about photography - it was really valuable.
But that was years ago. Almost prehistoric in terms of equipment and technology.
Whilst I wouldn't want to devalue their worth, I think that the internet and sites like this fulfil many (not all!) of the functions I enjoyed then.
But when you couple the D70Users.com site with mini-meets, I think there is very little that would be missing.
Whichever way you choose (real time or via cyberspace), I think it is great to get together with others to discuss photography.
