A Good Idea??

Not specifically relating to photography but a pretty good idea for all:

Following the recent events in London . . .

The Ambulance Service have launched a national "In Case of Emergency (ICE)" campaign .

The idea is that you store the word " I C E " in your mobile phone address book, and against it enter the number of the person you would want to be contacted "In Case of Emergency".

In an emergency situation ambulance and hospital staff will then be able to quickly find out who your next of kin are and be able to contact them. It's so simple that everyone can do it. Please do.

Please will you also email this to everybody in your address book, it won't take too many 'forwards' before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest.

For more than one contact name ICE1, ICE2, ICE3 etc.

Cheers,

And perhaps they will soon introduce overhere:
- Shoot to kill. (License not required)
- Camera in any corner (I'll switch my carreer to selling CCTV  )
- Random bag search
- Random harrassement
- Random annoying
- Random kidnapping
- Random abusing
and more to come.

Birdy,

I am as opposed to the Police State mentality and the oppression of the populace as you are ..... possibly even more. I don't feel, however, that a photographic forum and resource is a fitting place for us to incite outbursts with politicval rhetoric.

On the other hand, I am a diabetic and I carry with me at all times an ID card which states this. Without such knowledge of my condition I could be administered treatment that could possibly be more harmful than whatever my emrgency condition might be. I truly believe that the idea of having a uniform convention in place such as the I C E number can only enure to my own benefit. Again, bringing it closer to my own situation, I have no obvious next of kin. No spouse. No shack-up. No parents. And, having made my life a genetic cul-de-sac, no children. Emergency workers would need to be masters of the Times cryptic crossword to work out who to contact in my case. The I C E number is certainly a security for me. And no authority is going to have access to that number unless I am in a situation where it would be necessary.

Cheers,

I agree that it is a good idea... While I already have Home in my mobile, that number probably wouldn't be much use as we are not often at home...

On a lighter note... I would urge people to be careful what they put into their mobile. I can imagine what Mrs. Leek is going to say when she sees ICE WIFE come up on my phone...

I have ICE in my phone but that will only get you in touch with Fiegert's Ice Works Pty Ltd, which may be handy for keeping my body cold for medical research!!!!

There are a couple of people at my work place whom a lot of the teachers and students at Uni used to refer to as the ICE QUEENS.

Actually SS, very little is off the agenda here, providing only that there is respect and good manners. We have had vigorous discussions (including polite disagreements) on a number of potentially touchy subjects.

The only things that has looked like causing any serious trouble involved either Sigma lenses or Canon cameras!!! :D

I was going to say something and add to this, but a rare bout of good taste seems to be preventing me.

Gary, I reckon you have Sigma permanently in your search list, as you never miss a chance to rev up a Sigma user. I am surprised that our lone Tokina man hasn't got a rev yet, or do you wait till they grow to sufficient numbers to be a nuisance?

Glen,
Mr Tokina is hiding in a safe place!
We're monitoring him, don't you worry

Dad doesn't seem to have that big of a problem with Tokina.

That said, Dad and I have had some lens discussions in the past where he's actually recommended a Sigma over a Tokina, but only because he thinks that the Sigma-in-question's quality would have to be better than the Tokina-in-question's.
