Hey guys, a bit of an off topic question here. I have an old mound of clay soil that has a bunch of weeds growing in it which I have poisoned, and I want to make that mound into a garden bed. What I"m wondering is if I can use that soil after a certain amount of time without the poison affecting the new plants, or will I need to remove all the dirt and replace with proper soil stuff before planting?

I guess it would depend on what sort of poison you used, but if it was a normal shop-bought weedkiller, then I would say about a week should do it...
I know that when we had our garden landscaped, the gardener poisoned all the existing grass and weeds and laid turf on the same soil about a week later... It might say something on the poison container.

I'll check it out, thanks. I just bought a big container of it from Bunnings which said it'll take two weeks to kill the weeds, so I'll see how it goes.

Sounds like round up to me, it takes 2-3 weeks to do it’s thing.
After 2 weeks you should be right.
After the weeds have fell over get rid of them, then get your self some dynamic lifter “Chook poo” & mix it through the dirt.
Let that sit for a few days, then go for it with your garden.

Not that I am any expert in this field, but if it is roundup, I am pretty sure that it is a surface killer.

It needs to touch the surface of the leaves to do any damage. As soon as the leaves are brown, you should be fine.

Use a lot of newspaper & leaves or straw. No chemicals

give it a few months without light and you won't have any weeds.

Roundup is Glyphosphate, so is biodegrable and can be assumed to be no longer present in your garden bed after about 2-3 weeks or a very big downpour of rain. Alternatively, you could dowse it with water, restrictions permitting of course.

Then do as above and fill in with heaps of manure etc. (Do not use pea straw as mulch unless you want peas everywhere) Sugar Cane makes great mulch. Get that nitrogen in and keep it there.

It's not roundup, but the brand is Brunnings... (Maybe a bunnings brand?) I forgot to have a look at the label but it sounds like I should be right after 2 weeks. Can't wait to get stuck into it
