Kevin,

Or come to the VR meet at 4:00am on Saturday and you can play with it! Airfare is cheap now.

Yup, quite a few of us have this lens. Its best quality is its versatility: large zoom range and handholdable at very low shutter speeds thanks to the VR. The bad points are that the glass is not terribly fast, and it needs to be stopped down to f/11 for optimal sharpness. For the price though it's a superb all-rounder IMO, it's my walk-around lens.

It's the "default" lens for me, stays on the camera 90% of the time.
If I had to chose only one lens, this would be it.

It's my favourite too.
Great as a walkaround, good range, versatile, sharp, and with the VR, hand-holdable down to about a half second!
Leigh keeps trying to swap his kit lens for my 24-120VR.

I had a chance to compare kit lens and 24-120VR side by side (Thanks Birddog) and after that I've bought 24-120VR and sold kit lens wihout a doubt. Altough you'll need some 12-24 (Nikon, Sigma, Tamron) lens if you want wide angle because in some (but rare) cases 24 isn't wide enough
