My Site (Early Days)

Postby NikonUser on Tue Aug 02, 2005 12:09 pm

Hi there,

I am currently working on my own photography website and would like some feedback...

There is VERY little content yet but I need to know if the menu system works.

The only pages up at the moment are the main page and the 'news' page. If anyone has any spare time at all could you check out that the menu works? If you have any problems can you let me know what browser you're using and what the problem was?

Also I'd really like any comments regaring how the site looks (colours etc). Any hints or tips greatly appreciated. This is my first ever website.

I also don't really know what to make the banner heading look like (the text up the top is only a temporary placeholder).

The address is http://www.australiandigitalphotography.com

Thanks very much

Paul

Hi Paul,

Great domain name!!

It's a good start.
I'm using Firefox, havent tested in anything else but the menu is grey until you hover and then it fills black. The menu works though.

I like grey sites, my site is all grey, it makes the pics stand out more.

I'm personally not a fan of pop out menus but they work well and are quite logical, if a little fiddly sometimes.

There is a problem on the news page - the menu is above the footer which I guess is controlled by the height of the content. Havent looked at the code, are you using CSS for layout?

Other than that its a good start Paul.

Hi Paul,

a comment on your expanding links, eg gallery, articles etc. When the links expand to the right, because they have a transparent background, you lose the text of the link, either over the photo or it gets mixed in with the text.

Also, I'm not one for black backgrounds on web sites. They are hard to get right in terms of colour mix and ease of reading. But that is probably just me ;-)

I use firefox 1.0.6 on linux.

Hmmm. Hadn't noticed that firefox problem before. Thanks for that. (I've decided that debugging websites is darn hard work!!!)

I knew about the news page thingy. It's because the menu is positioned absolutely. (I didn't design the menu... way too hard for my skill level).

Paul

EDIT: I think I just fixed the menu thing in firefox (I forgot a single '#' in a CSS file)

Paul

IE6 at work here, everything seems to be working ok.

My suggestion is that I would like the opening page to fit without the need for scrolling.

Keep at it, will look forward to seeing how it develops

cheers

No problems on Camino in Mac OS X. I like the grey background also, makes a nice change to the common white..

Fast and clean on Safari, Mac OSX.

I like the design - and the name.

Paul, works well here on IE6. Just a thought, under equipment you have support. To a non photographer they may take that to mean a logistics person or assistant. Maybe tripod would be more appropriate? I am really not sure but thought I should mention it.

Paul, I've tried twice, both times before the page finishes loading, it goes to a porno site, no joke. I just manage to read your title and a quick glimpse of the lizard and then straight to the porno site. Using Mozilla

Edit: Just tried IE6 and the same thing happens.

Porn site?? Hmm. Those shots weren't supposed to be uploaded! My girlfriend might be angry with me now 8) .

Seriously though. Maybe you have a virus/spyware/other malacious stuff on your computer? That happened to me once and whenever I typed in google.com I went to a porn site.

No one else is having this problem are they??

Hi again...

I've now updated the site and am looking for comments. There is still very little content at the moment... still finalizing how things are going to work.

http://www.australiandigitalphotography.com

There are two image galleries online "Rivers, Lakes & Waterfalls" and "Beaches".

Can anyone comment on how they look? Suggestions and improvments are very welcome.

Also any bugs that you might encounter.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.
